  • About this Coffee: Umoja is Swahili for Solidarity. For many members of the Umoja Cooperative coffee is their key source of income. The cooperative consists of 11,600 members. The coffee from Umoja grows in South Kivu and is certified Fair Trade Organic. This is an area that’s been fraught with instability and violence over the decades. We were connected with this coffee through our friends from Mighty Peace Coffee. Using the term “Peace Trade”, Mighty Peace refers to a system of production that is ethical and transparent. They source coffee from growers from the eastern region of the Congo and ensure to create an ecosystem that supports people, the planet, and peace in the Democratic Republic of Congo. In the cup we taste dried apricot, maple, and dried cranberry. The cup is savory, with a rhubarb-like vibrant level of acidity, and a sweet apricot finish.
