  • About this Coffee: In 2012 the Kabngetuny Farmers’ Cooperative along with Fairtrade Africa, launched a gender equality initiative called Growing Women in Coffee. This initiative aims to give women ownership of their coffee and increase their economic and social empowerment. For this harvest cycle, 371 female smallholder producers from the Kericho region were involved in the program. The handpicked coffee cherries were delivered to Kabngetuny’s washing station, where they were placed in flotation tanks to remove under ripe or damaged cherries. The coffee cherries were then pulped, fermented, washed, and consequently laid to dry on raised beds for approximately 10 to 20 days. The Kahawa Bora dry mill used separate hulling lines to maintain the coffee’s traceability. This increases quality for smallholder producers and most importantly, it bolsters up recognition to the women of Kabngetuny. *Coffee from Kenya is classified according to size. AA beans are larger than 7.2 millimeters. In the cup we taste passion fruit, mango, and tamarind.
