  • About this Coffee: Papua New Guinea encompasses the eastern part of the world's second largest island. It’s a country with a warm tropical climate, located in the southwestern hemisphere. The Sigri Coffee Estate is located in the Waghi Valley of the Western Highlands. The medium density shade trees in the estate promote even ripening of the coffee cherries and they provide a habitat for at least 90 species of birds. Sigri Estate Kula Peaberry's exceptional quality is the result of many factors in the farming practices. The name “Kula” refers to special processing guidelines. The coffee goes through two rounds of color-sorting and two rounds of hand-sorting. Such meticulous attention to detail results in one of the purest-tasting Papua New Guinea coffees available. Peaberries are estimated to make up about 5 - 10% of a harvest. Unlike typical coffee cherries that contain two seeds, peaberries form when only one seed develops within the cherry, resulting in their distinctive spherical shape. We value the opportunity to work with Benchmark Coffee Traders, who have direct ties to these coffee producers. Benchmark supports a strong social agenda that provides free housing, free healthcare, and free schooling to the coffee pickers and farmers who work to produce these coffees. In the cup we experience notes of raspberry, tangerine, and cane sugar.
